KEPT: Lauretta Afful
“I’m [currently] learning to be expressive with how I feel.”
“Lauretta has a soft spot for storytelling through clothing. As a fashion stylist, image consultant and writer—she explores how life’s seasons transform a wardrobe. Offline she’s hands-on (shopping, writing, styling); online she’s warm and practical, sharing her work and brands for her audience to tap into. To me, her work is aspirational, contemporary and sensual. Through this interview, I see how this tenderness is reflected in her personal life.”

What’s your daily uniform or go-to outfit right now?
A jogger set from Weekday.
Who or what shaped your style early on?
The film Boomerang, my older cousins and music.
“Watching Boomerang (1992) as a teenager, I realised fashion could be aspirational and political. Jacqueline’s sharp suits and lacquered nails weren’t just glamorous, they were armour, presence, and a declaration.”
What’s something someone might be surprised to find in your wardrobe?
Skinny denim jeans (with rips lol).
What’s one fashion item you’ll never part with or have had for ages?
My trustee leather jacket. There isn't a profound story but somehow I can't seem to let it go.
How do you feel when you wear it—or even just see it?
Nostalgia and who I was when I bought it.
“Clothes weren’t just outfits; they were portals, small invitations into lives I hadn’t yet lived.”
What’s one non-fashion item that holds deep value to you?
A kintsugi bowl I made that I use as a keyholder now! It reminds me that one can see beauty in everything, including broken things.
If you had to describe it to someone who’s never seen it, what would you say?
Imagine a broken bowl that has been mended back together by gold glue!
What are you currently watching, reading, or listening to?
I’ve been watching Your Honor and I’m an avid reader on substack. I love Justin Bieber and Vienna’s new album.
What’s something you’ve recently learned—or unlearned?
I’m learning how to be expressive with how I feel with my loved ones. Whilst unlearning bottling up my emotions and dealing with it all by myself.
What’s a detail about you that people rarely notice, but you love?
How sensitive I am, I may come across all put together and nonchalant, but I am far from that.
What chapter are you in right now?
Fine tuning.
